Jusqu’aux rives de la Gironde

To the banks of the Gironde river.
A week for a trip along the Atlantic coast to the banks of the Gironde before returning to Brittany. We followed the small roads to visit the most beautiful villages of France with a first stop at Rochefort-en-Terre before driving across the Charentes region and reaching the beautiful island of Ré. We spend most of our time in the marshes looking for birds. Near Le Martray, we are lucky to found the waders. We had a nice dinner picnic watching avocets and white stilts that nest on the island at this time of the year. The rest of the time, we go through the beautiful villages of Ars-en-ré and La Flotte. In the meadows we admire the donkey of Poitou, a very old breed of donkey native to the west of France.

We drive then towards the south of Charentes for the marshes and the stronghold of Brouage. We arrive there quite early in the morning, before the arrival of the coaches when the village awakes slowly. Then it is Talmont-sur-Gironde, a small city located on a promontory overlooking the estuary of the Gironde that was once a formidable stronghold.

The weather is great with cloudy skies – best time for travel and photography. I got my new photographic signature .. here it is..
